Solar, storage, and EV charging all connect through your consumer unit. If it is an older board, it likely cannot accommodate them safely or compliantly, and a non-compliant board can complicate both your installation sign-off and your home insurance.
We fit 18th Edition compliant units as standard. That means RCBO protection on every circuit, so a single fault isolates one circuit rather than tripping the whole house, and a surge protection device (SPD) at the board, protecting the entire property.
We add dedicated circuits for generation meters, batteries, EV chargers, and smart devices. It is the unglamorous part of a good install, and the part everything else depends on.
