An outdated consumer unit isn't just an old fuse box — it's incompatible with modern solar, battery, and EV setups, and it creates compliance and insurance headaches. We supply and fit 18th Edition boards with surge protection and solar-ready circuits.
Solar, storage, and EV charging all connect through your consumer unit. If it's an older board, it likely can't accommodate them safely or compliantly — and a non-compliant board can complicate both your installation sign-off and your home insurance.
We fit 18th Edition compliant units as standard. That means RCBO protection on every circuit — so a single fault isolates one circuit rather than tripping the whole house — and a surge protection device (SPD) at the board, protecting the entire property.
We add dedicated circuits for generation meters, batteries, EV chargers, and smart devices, and notify all work to Building Control under Part P. It's the unglamorous part of a good install — and the part everything else depends on.
The current UK wiring standard — required for new solar installations.
Independent fault isolation on every circuit, a step beyond standard MCBs.
Surge protection covering the whole property, fitted at the unit.
Properly provisioned ways for generation meters, batteries, and EV chargers.
All work registered with Building Control and fully certified.
A tidy, planned swap with minimal disruption to your supply.
The compliant, future-ready base layer for solar, storage, and EV charging.
If your board predates RCBOs and SPDs, it's worth a look before any solar or EV work. We'll tell you plainly whether it needs replacing.
